What are you most proud of in your life?
It’s hard to pinpoint just one thing I’m most proud of. I’ve been through so much in my time on this earth – some fun, some messy and some downright horrific. But I’ve also achieved a lot in the short time I’ve been here.
By 23, I had survived and escaped domestic violence, worked as a nurse for five years, completed a post-grad certificate in reproductive and sexual health and spent two years training members of volunteer medical services. During my time as a nurse, I helped so many people in so many different ways – children with tonsillitis, the elderly with cognitive decline and countless women navigating some of the most difficult and vulnerable moments of their lives.
What I’m most proud of though, are the moments I took extra time to help women better understand their bodies, their medical procedures, and their reproductive and sexual health. I worked with many women experiencing domestic violence, and I will never forget those who woke up after a procedure, turned to me with tears in their eyes, and said “You’ve saved my life.”
Nothing will ever beat that feeling – knowing that the time, effort and care I put in made a real difference. I made sure those women were seen and heard, and that they left with the support they needed to rebuild. That’s what I’m proudest of: the compassion I carried and the lives I helped change.
